Colonel (Ret.) Trever J. Nehls enlisted in the United States Army in 1988 as an Infantryman, completing basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and was selected three years later for Officer Candidate School, where he earned his commission as a second lieutenant. Over more than 33 years of service in the U.S. Army Reserve, he commanded Soldiers at the company, battalion, and brigade levels and led troops in Iraq and Afghanistan in defense of our nation’s freedoms, with an additional deployment to Kuwait. Trever’s professional military education includes the Command and General Staff College, Joint Forces Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College, where he further honed his strategic leadership skills. His service has been recognized with numerous awards and decorations, including three Bronze Stars and the Combat Action Badge, reflecting a career marked by courage, duty, and unwavering commitment to country.
Faith and family have always been at the center of Trever Nehls’ life. As an active member of Grand Parkway Baptist Church, a devoted husband to Kerri, and a proud father to Madison, Wyatt, and Parker, he understands firsthand the challenges families in Fort Bend, Brazoria and Harris Counties face every day, from keeping communities safe to making sure kids have strong schools and a secure future. His conservative values are grounded in faith, personal responsibility, and the belief that parents, not government, should make the key decisions for their children. Trever supports limited government, fiscal responsibility, secure borders, and the protection of constitutional freedoms, including religious liberty and the right to keep and bear arms. A simple question guides every decision he makes: Is this good for Texas families?
Trever Nehls pairs real-world leadership with a strong academic foundation. He earned a master’s degree in Military Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, a master’s degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University, and a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Corrections from the University of Wisconsin–Platteville. This blend of strategic, governmental, and criminal justice education gives him a deep understanding of how policy, public safety, and administration intersect in everyday life.
Trever has led in both public service and the private sector. As the elected Constable for Fort Bend County Precinct 4 from 2013 to 2020, he managed a professional law enforcement agency responsible for enforcing state criminal laws and traffic codes with consistency, integrity, and accountability. He built and led a team focused on community trust, safe neighborhoods, and responsive service. In addition, through his work in business leadership—including founding Nehls Consulting, LLC—Trever has helped organizations tackle complex challenges, strengthen operations, and plan for the future. Taken together, his education, business experience, and proven leadership as Constable reflect a record of thoughtful, principled leadership rooted in service.
