Trever Nehls, a retired U.S. Army colonel and former Fort Bend County constable, is running to succeed his twin brother, Troy Nehls, who is leaving Congress. In an interview, Nehls said he believes the district needs a representative who will closely align with former President Donald Trump and advocate for conservative priorities in Washington.
“Texas’ 22nd District deserves a strong representative who listens to residents and will advocate for them in Congress,” Nehls said. “I’m the only candidate in this race endorsed by President Donald Trump, and my goal is to advance the America First agenda in Congress.”
Nehls said his top priorities if elected would include lowering the cost of everyday goods, securing the U.S.-Mexico border, expanding domestic energy production and supporting law enforcement. He also said he would push for completion of the SH-99 corridor through Brazoria, Fort Bend and Harris counties and support flood-mitigation projects to protect neighborhoods from major storms. Nehls said his military and law-enforcement background sets him apart from other candidates and that he would emphasize constituent engagement and casework.
