President Trump is backing retiring Rep. Troy Nehls’s (R-Texas) identical twin for his House seat.
“It is my Honor to endorse MAGA Warrior TREVER NEHLS, who is running to represent the incredible people of Texas’ 22nd Congressional District,” Trump said in a Truth Social post Thursday.
“Trever’s brother is the GREAT Congressman from Texas, Troy Nehls. He and his family are fierce advocates for our Movement to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. As a former Fort Bend County Constable, and retired U.S. Army Colonel, Trever strongly supports our incredible Law Enforcement, Military, and Veterans, and knows the Wisdom and Courage it takes to Ensure LAW AND ORDER,” he added.
Trever Nehls, an Army veteran who has fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, celebrated Trump’s endorsement in a post on Facebook.
“I’m extremely honored to have the endorsement of our 45th and 47th President, President Donald J. Trump. In Congress, I will stand firmly by President Trump and work to cement President Trump’s executive orders into permanent law,” Trever Nehls said Thursday.
Troy Nehls announced last month he would not run for his seat next year.
“After more than 30 years in law enforcement serving and protecting my community as a police officer, constable, Fort Bend County Sheriff, an Army veteran, and six years representing this district in Congress, I have made the decision, after conversations with my beautiful bride and my girls over the Thanksgiving holiday, to focus on my family and return home after this Congress,” Troy Nehls said in a statement.
The House Republican said he called Trump prior to deciding to bow out of Congress.
“President Trump has always been a strong ally for our district and a true friend, and I wanted him to hear it from me first,” he continued. “Serving this country in the military, serving our community in law enforcement, and serving this district in Congress has been the honor of my life.”
